Etsy fees explained for sellers

Etsy fees on an order = transaction fee + payment processing fee + listing fee, plus an offsite ads fee if the sale came from an offsite ad.

The rates on this page are the US rates used in our Etsy fee calculator (as of November 2026). Rates change and can differ by country and account: check your Etsy payment account for current rates before you rely on them. This site is not affiliated with Etsy.

The four fees

The quick version

Without offsite ads, the percentages add up to 9.5% of the order total and the fixed parts to $0.45 per order: fees ≈ order total × 9.5% + $0.45. Each fee is rounded to the cent on its own, so the real total can differ from this shortcut by a cent.

A worked order (fictional numbers)

A seller lists a hand-thrown planter at $42.00 and charges $6.00 shipping. The planter cost $14.50 to make, including the seller's time, and the postage label costs $5.10. These are example numbers, not suggested prices.

Order total ($42.00 + $6.00)$48.00
Transaction fee: $48.00 × 6.5%$3.12
Processing fee: $48.00 × 3% + $0.25$1.69
Listing fee$0.20
Total Etsy fees$5.01
You receive after fees$42.99
Less cost to make and postage ($14.50 + $5.10)$19.60
Profit$23.39 (48.7%)

The fees take $5.01 of the $48.00, about 10.4% of what the buyer paid for the item and shipping. If the buyer also paid $3.00 of sales tax, processing would rise by 3% × $3.00 = $0.09. The tax itself is not your money, so leave it out of your profit.

The same order from an offsite ad

If the buyer arrived through an Etsy offsite ad at 15%, add $48.00 × 15% = $7.20. Total fees become $12.21, you receive $35.79 and profit falls to $16.19, a 33.7% margin. Because you cannot always tell in advance which sale will carry this fee, check that your price still leaves a profit with it.

What the fees do not include

Pricing with fees in mind

Because most of the fees are a percentage of the price, a higher price means higher fees too. To find a price that keeps a set margin after fees, divide instead of adding: price = (cost + $0.45) ÷ (1 − margin − 9.5%). The handmade pricing calculator does this for you, and the guide to pricing handmade items works through an example.

Check an order of your own in the Etsy fee calculator: enter the item price, shipping, your cost and postage, and edit the fee rates to match your payment account.
