Handmade pricing calculator

Add up what one item really costs you, including your time, then pick the margin you want. The calculator finds the price that still leaves that margin after Etsy takes its percentage and fixed fees. Nothing is saved or sent anywhere.

Fixed fees: $0.20 listing + $0.25 processing. Fees here are on the item price only; if you charge shipping, Etsy also takes its percentage of that, so check a full order with the Etsy fee calculator. The price is rounded to the cent before fees and profit are worked out.

How it works

Labor = minutes ÷ 60 × hourly rate. Cost = materials + labor + overhead + packaging. Price = (cost + fixed fees) ÷ (1 − margin − % fees). Your profit is on top of the wage you already paid yourself in labor.

Worked example (the values above): 45 minutes at $18/hour is $13.50 of labor, so the item costs $6.50 + $13.50 + $1.20 + $0.90 = $22.10. With $0.45 fixed fees, 9.5% percentage fees and a 35% margin, the price is ($22.10 + $0.45) ÷ (1 − 0.35 − 0.095) = $22.55 ÷ 0.555 = $40.63. Etsy takes $40.63 × 9.5% + $0.45 = $4.31, leaving $40.63 − $22.10 − $4.31 = $14.22 profit, which is 35.0% of the price.

Why not just double your cost? $22.10 × 2 = $44.20 looks like a 50% margin, but after $4.65 of fees it is really 39.5%. See also the wholesale price calculator and all calculators.
